efficiency
“Efficiency” is the name of a 24-hour painting action from 1998, with the aim of creating 1000 autonomous works on paper and subsequently disposing of 900. By creating permanently, aesthetic doubts were given no chance and intellectual blockades were circumvented.
As quickly as the works were produced, so quickly were the decisions made about which ones would end up in the trash. Presumably, the selection of the works was not unlike today’s Tinder – App. Even if the remaining works have a sketchy character and many of them have already disappeared, they remain part of a broader concept that is reflected in them. The cost-benefit ratio remains positive.
The action was documented by Silia Giussani. You can find a a few short clips here.
